Series Description: This series consists of records which were once filed under "Medicine, Health, and Safety" in a central correspondence file maintained successively by the Atomic Energy Commission, Energy Research and Development Administration, and Department of Energy. Included are originals and copies of correspondence; transcripts of public and congressional hearings; meeting minutes; press releases; permit applications; procedures manuals for plant functions and departments; radionuclide inventory data, which lists, by location, amounts of radioactivity released, disposed of, or deposited onsite or offsite; nuclear safety program appraisals; investigations of safety violations; occurrence reports; and photographs of ponds and landfills. This series also contains many reports, including Liquid Wastes and the Nitrate Problem at Rocky Flats, Rocky Flats Site Condition Study-Status Report, Annual Environmental Monitoring Report, Inventory of Pollutants Released to the Environment, Study of Plutonium in Aquatic Systems of the Rocky Flats Environs, Radiation Standards for Protection of the Public, and Building 374 Final Safety Analysis Report. Subjects addressed include air sampling techniques, environmental monitoring activities, employee safety procedures, contaminated soil removal, mortality rates among plutonium workers, toxic waste shipments, the Rocky Flats Environmental Impact Statement, and many more. PU&D 839 (Box 11) contains correspondence and reports relating to the May 1969 fire and subsequent cleanup efforts in Buildings 776 and 777.
