Argonne National Laboratory SERIES TITLE Health Effects of Exposure to Internally Deposited Radioactivity: Occupational Exposure to Thorium Subseries INCLUSIVE DATES ca. 1935 ca. 1985 ARRANGEMENT Subject Numerical (case files) VOLUME approximately 20 cubic feet DESCRIPTION These records contain information on the follow-up study of thorium deposited in humans where exposure was incidental to thorium refining and gas mantle manufacturing operations. This work was funded by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission under the title "Health Effects of Industrial Exposure to Thorium." The efforts of the Center for Human Radiobiology were similar to those described in the subseries Occupational and Iatrogenic Exposure to Radium and consequently the types of records are similar. Some specific differences were the absence of a full skeletal diagnostic x-ray examination, the absence of bone densitometry, and the addition of lung function testing.
