Series Description: This series consists of correspondence, press releases, memoranda, flow charts, a final report, and an implementation plan relating to a chromic acid spill resulting from a tank overflow in the plating laboratory of Building 444. The implementation plan, which was developed in response to requirements of the NPDES [National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System] Federal Facility Compliance Agreement between the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, outlines the problems which contributed to the spill and proposes corrective measures. Included in the records are a medical report concerning individuals involved in the incident; a chart which lists causes and events; recommendations for corrective measures (e.g., waste tank secondary containment repair, detention pond dam upgrades, etc.); and a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Tank Release Report, which documents accidental releases of hazardous material from onsite storage tanks during 1989.
