Finding Aids: Records Transfer Request Disposition Authority: DOE (1988) 1.3 Series Description: This record series contains standard procedures and practices manuals created by Department of Energy contractors which operated the Savannah River Plant. E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company administered the Savannah River Plant from October 1950 through March 1989. Since then, Westinghouse Savannah River Company has operated the site. Box 77 contains a Westinghouse procedures manual, dated September 1990-January 1991, for a Power Operations Electrical Transmission System; revision pages for a Westinghouse Health Protection Department Radiation manual, dated 1991, which contains information on analytical, quality control, and general administrative procedures; and the Health Protection Department Radiobioassay Counting Facilities Procedures Manual (Westinghouse, May-June 1991), which contains information pertaining to the proper use and care of survey, laboratory, counting room, and special monitoring instruments. Box 78 contains the Health Protection Instrumentation Manual (Du Pont, March 1988), which includes instructions for measuring alpha, beta, gamma, neutron, and tritium radiation and descriptions of various monitoring instruments; the Industrial Hygiene-Hazardous Materials Manual, dated June 1978, which contains descriptions of hazardous materials and instructions for evaluating and controlling exposure to them; the Health Protection Personnel Monitoring Manual (Du Pont, April 1977), which covers safety and routine procedures for wearing, using, and measuring results from TLD [thermoluminscent dosimeter] badges; the Radiation and Contamination Control Manual, which contains plant, personnel, equipment, and material regulations; special hazards bulletins, which include proper procedures for working in regulated areas or radiation zones, investigating radiation and contamination incidents, controlling radiation exposure, and wearing protective equipment; an Industrial Hygiene Manual (Du Pont, July 1979), which has information on industrial hygiene, industrial toxicology, and hazards survey procedures; the Industrial Hygiene-Material Safety Data Sheets (Du Pont, February 1980), which contain information regarding various materials, their health hazards, and precautions for exposure to them; the Health Protection Department Radiobioassay Laboratory Procedures Manual (Du Pont, February 1988), which contains information on analytical, quality control, in vivo, tritium bioassay measurement, and administrative procedures; and the Health Protection Procedures Manual (Du Pont, May 1988), which documents procedures for personnel, instrument and equipment usage, radioactive materials shipment, and health physics monitoring.
