Series Description: This series consists of records used or created for the epidemiologic study of Pantex employees. Records in Room 209 (Cabinet 1, Shelf 5) include computer punch cards pertaining to employees with Spanish surnames, employee lists sorted by badge or social security numbers, and information concerning employees' racial backgrounds; study correspondence, working papers, and notes; a copy of the published article concerning the study's conclusions; a Pantex Plant Records Inventory; mortality rate ratios for select cancers among residents in Texas counties; environmental monitoring reports for Pantex; quarterly federal tax returns (Form 941) for contractors at Pantex (e.g., Mason and Hanger, Silas Mason Company, Inc.), which include annual lists of employee names, wages, and social security numbers; and documentation for the Monitor software used for the study.

Material in the Records Center consists of 8 boxes of records, numbered 76-83. Box 76 contains computer-generated data concerning Pantex employees, including internal and external exposure data, cancer rates, causes of death, rates for respiratory and digestive diseases, and radiation and mortality studies of white males and females. These record are from 1950 to 1980.

Box 77 includes Pantex employee lists (including deceased employee lists indicating causes of death), a Pantex plant history, and computer-generated reports of employee radiation exposures. Box 78 contains a Pantex Master Roster, dated 1982, that lists employee names; social security, badge, and study numbers; birth, hire, and termination dates; sex; race; and job titles.

Box 79 contains copies of 1981 and 1982 issues of the newspaper Pantexan; undated badge cards which provide employee names, badge numbers, and contractors; a definition of the database for Pantex Health Physics records that contain whole body exposure data; a list of 423 records of Social Security Administration (SSA) "misfits," dated May 1982; Pantex health histories for brain tumor patients, dated October 1982, which include employee names, birthdates, positions, and departments; and coded SSA lists of residency data for deceased employees.

Box 79 also contains the following computer-generated reports: a report entitled MISFITS.LST; 1 (dated May 1982); a report entitled MISFITS.LST; 2 (dated June 1982); a report from PANTEX DEADWM.LW; 1 (dated December 1982), which consists of SSA return data; Wage and Salary Personnel Verification, dated May 1981, which includes employee names, badge numbers, departments, job titles, birthdates, and social security numbers; an alphabetical list of Pantex employees, dated April 1981, which provides employee names, badge and telephone numbers, and addresses; Security Area Master, dated October 1980, which contains employee badge numbers, names, job titles, site or contractor names, clearance numbers, dates, areas, departments, and birthdates; and People Master Finder, dated January 1982.

Box 80 contains computer-generated reports titled Pantex Deads, Pantex People With CVS [Current Vital Status], DATATRIEVE Output of Completeness of Cohort and Completeness of Death Certificate Ascertainment, and Documentation of Follow-up. These reports provide employee names, hire and death dates, job titles, study and badge numbers, and current vital status. Box 80 also contains computer-generated reports on exposures of employees to radiation, including Annual Exposure Report for 1982, List of Yearly Whole Body Exposure for 1976 and 1978, and Monthly Radiation Exposure Reports for 12/77 and 12/79. These reports provide employee names; badge and social security numbers; annual whole body exposure totals; and exposure readings for whole body, skin, extremity, and internal exposure to gamma and neutron radiation and to various radionuclides. Also included are copies of Texas State Department of Health Vital Statistics, 1956-1978

Boxes 81-83 contain various computer-generated reports of Pantex personnel, dated 1980-1983, which contain employee names, social security and badge numbers, birthdates, sex, race, and hire dates. Box 82 also includes copies of death certificates (ca. 1957-1982); a list of plant organizational codes (1979); a list of job titles and codes (1980); an organizational chart (1981); a job classification list (1981); and a deceased employee list (1980), which includes employee names, birth and death dates, hire and termination dates, years of service, job titles, and causes of death. Box 83 also contains a list of new employees (1981), a payroll list for active employees (1981), and a locator book for personnel records. These records include employee names, badge numbers, job titles and types, supervisors' names, department names, and codes. Also included are death certificates, dated 1979 to 1980.
