Series Description: This series contains background material related to the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Five Rem Study. The study compared employees exposed to plutonium radiation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Y-12 and K-25 Plants at Oak Ridge, National Lead Company of Ohio (the contractor at Fernald), Mallinckrodt Chemical Works, and the Comparative Animal Research Laboratory to those at Mound, Los Alamos, and Rocky Flats. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of five rems as the annual occupational limit. Included in the series are: memoranda and data containing employee names and personal statistics; radiation monitoring and work history data from each facility for both the cohort and the comparison group; mortality and morbidity data for the cohort exposed to greater than or equal to five rem annually and for the "nonexposed" group subjected to less than or equal to one rem annually; an interviewing manual; a report titled Building a Good Interviewing Relationship; and interview forms.
