Series Description: This series contains materials used in support of the Smoking Study, which was conducted by an Epidemiology Section graduate research assistant. The series consists of four main subseries. Subseries one consists of data used to prepare the study databases and includes a list of employees submitted to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the National Death Index to ascertain vital status. This subseries also contains computer-generated reports of SSA submission data and results. Also included is an alphabetical list of deceased employees from the Albuquerque Operations Office, Zia Company, Los Alamos, and Mound. This list contains employee names, social security numbers, states and dates of death, and death certificate numbers. The second subseries consists of materials related to the database software and includes the H2MED data definition, smoking database definitions and programming notes, sample printouts, and program documentation for a 1984 SSA submission. The third subseries consists of computer-generated reports from database searches, including data compilations and statistical analyses. Included in this subseries are smoking and drinking test data and statistical information for male, female, Anglo, and Hispanic study subjects. The fourth subseries consists of the smoking study paper drafts, slides, graphs, overhead projector transparencies, and study advisory committee meeting notes.
